AMI DODUCO Receives Prestigious Environmental Award

EXPORT, PENNSYLVANIA- AMI DODUCO, a Technitrol company (NYSE: TNL), announced it was chosen to receive the prestigious Pennsylvania Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence for 2002. Governor Mark Schweiker presented the award to the company on September 25, 2002 at a ceremony in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

The company is a leading producer of electrical contact products used in devices such as circuit breakers, industrial controls, relays and switches. A wide range of metalworking processes including melt/cast technologies, powder metallurgy, electroplating, finishing operations and refining are used to produce the contacts.

AMI DODUCO received the award for its innovative programs to reduce waste and conserve resources. These programs include a new cleaning and finishing process that enables a 99.9% efficiency in removing metal from wastewater, an ultrasonic degreasing system that eliminates the use of solvents, strict control and recycling of process water, and a process to convert waste products into a commercially marketable product.

“Environmental excellence is a top priority at AMI DODUCO,” said Larry J. Gaudino, Director of Environmental, Health and Safety. “We believe it to be one of our key competitive advantages. That is precisely the spirit of the Pennsylvania Environmental Excellence program.”

“I am very proud of our Westmoreland team for designing and implementing the programs that resulted in this prestigious award,” said Albert Thorp, III, Chief Executive Officer of AMI DODUCO. “Their efforts are testimony to our commitment to the highest level of environmental compliance not only to our U.S. operations, but also to every location throughout the world.”

The 2002 honor was AMI DODUCO’s second Governor’s Award. In 1997, the company received the same recognition for its patented closed multi-loop heat exchanger system that provides the factory with cooling water with minimal capital investment, reduced energy usage, no municipal water supplements, and zero discharges. AMI DODUCO has received numerous other environmental accolades, including Gold Status recognition in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Metal Finishing Strategic Goals Program in 2000 and 2001, the New Jersey Industrial Wastewater Treatment Award in 2000, and a nomination for the 1999 Three Rivers Environmental Award.

Headquartered in Export, Pennsylvania, AMI DODUCO, a Technitrol Company (NYSE: TNL), is a global leader in electrical contact technology and fabrication. The company supplies contacts and assemblies, contact materials, thermostatic and laminated metal products, electroplating and surface treatment services, and precious metal refining and recycling to more than 3,000 customers.
