PHILADELPHIA – Technitrol, Inc. (NYSE: TNL) announced that it has completed the acquisition of the electrical contacts business of Engelhard-CLAL (E-CLAL), headquartered in Noisy, France. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The business will operate as a unit of Technitrol’s Electrical Contact Products Segment.
“This transaction is part of our previously discussed strategy of targeting acquisitions in countries where we need to broaden our market penetration or where market consolidation is possible,” said Technitrol Chairman and Chief Executive Officer James M. Papada, III. “In addition, it enables us to offer E-CLAL customers access to the world’s most comprehensive line of electrical contact products, services and leading-edge solutions.”
With operations in France, Spain and the United Kingdom, E-CLAL manufactures electrical contacts, wire and strip contact materials, contact profiles and weld tapes, stamped parts and contact assemblies primarily for the European electrical equipment market. Sales for 2001 are expected to be approximately $25 million.
“We look forward to developing the production synergies we see in this acquisition,” Papada said.
Based in Philadelphia, Technitrol is a worldwide producer of electronic components, electrical contacts and assemblies and other precision-engineered parts and materials for manufacturers of networking, broadband/Internet access, telecommunications and computer equipment, electrical switching devices, and other products.
