EXPORT, PA -- AMI DODUCO, a unit of Technitrol (NYSE: TNL), has acquired the operating assets of MEC BETRAS Italia S.R.L. Contatti Elettrici in Lentate/Seveso, Italy. MEC BETRAS is the leading Italian producer of electrical contact rivets and stamped electrical contact parts, which are used in automobiles, household appliances, and circuit breakers.
“We believe that to compete effectively, global companies need a local touch,” said AMI DODUCO President James J. Rafferty, Jr. “This acquisition is part of our ongoing commitment to get closer to our global customers’ local operations in Italy, where MEC BETRAS’s position is quite strong.
“In addition, MEC BETRAS has a significant business in electrical contact rivets, which we have identified as a strategic growth opportunity within the overall metal fabrication markets,” Rafferty said. “AMI DODUCO is the world’s largest supplier of contact rivets outside of Japan. This acquisition adds to our already significant rivet production in the Unites States, Mexico and Spain.
“MEC BETRAS is a gem of a company, with state-of-the-art equipment, fine production personnel and a dedicated group of owners who will remain through a reasonable transition period,” Rafferty said.
