EXPORT, Pennsylvania – AMI DODUCO, a Technitrol (NYSE: TNL) Company, participated in the 50th IEEE Holm Conference on Electrical Contacts, held jointly with the 22nd International Conference on Electrical Contacts recently in Seattle, Washington. Eric Streicher, North American Senior Development Engineer, delivered a paper titled "Welding Behavior of AgSnO2 Contact Material with Microstructure and Additive Modifications," which he coauthored at AMI DODUCO with Chi Leung, and Dennis Fitzgerald. The paper deals with processes to improve the manufacturing of anti-welding silver tin oxide contact material. This is an important issue as the electrical industry transitions from cadmium-bearing to more environmentally friendly cadmium-free contacts.
In addition, Chi Leung delivered a paper titled “Micro-Electro-Mechanical Relays – Design Concepts and Process Demonstrations" which he coauthored with Dr. Han S. Lee, Jenny Shi, and Dr. Shih-Chia Chang of Delphi Research Labs. The paper illustrates the application of micro-electromechanical systems (MEMs), a technology that utilizes clean-room semiconductor processes in the fabrication of relays and switches, resulting in unprecedented precision and miniaturization. Though micro-fabrication of electrical products is still in the demonstration stage, the knowledge of this process gained at the conference is expected to be applied in the development of future switches and relays.
The IEEE Holm Conference provides a forum for the presentation and discussion of the latest developments in the field of electric contacts as well as, the application of recent advances in materials and processes in electrical, electronic and telecommunications equipment.
